By Celestia's mighty beard...
So this image was made for the Derpy's Bestest Day Ever event over on Equestria Daily: [link]
, and believe it or not, it really was far less work than I ever expected it would be.
I considered a couple things that I could do for Darpy's bestest day ever, but I wanted to do something really special. After all, a best day ever has to be really REALLY awesome and incredible. I couldn't just have her eating a muffin, and the day Dinky was born or graduated or something, while very heartwarming and chock full of motherly bliss, was simply too pedestrian for the best day ever for our little Derpy Hooves. Not to belittle the importance of childbirth or anything, but c'mon. Any mare can do it. Also it hurts like a bitch from what I've heard (course I wouldn't know, having a penis and all).
So I asked myself, 'what would make a great day truly AWESOME?' Well, it's Derpy so muffins have to be involved, but what else is awesome?
Space. Space is awesome.
Oh! and Keytars! Keytars rock!
And sunglasses, loosely-worn neckties, and fedoras! those are awesome too!
And Rainbows! And Led Zeppelin music! And Doctor Who! Those are ALL FRIGGIN AWESOME!
Put them all together and, well... you get this! Derpy Hooves' most Radically Awesome Day EVER!(To give credit where it's due, though, I never would have been able to complete this image were it not for somewhat taking the idea from my friend, Atomic-Chinchilla's recent sketch: [link] . Thanks buddy!)
And of course, her family's with her too. They're just hanging back and letting her have her fun, while they drink Sweet Apple Cider in the TARDIS.
Yes... it truly is the bestest day ever...
I started at around 5:00 pm and finished editing it in photoshop at about 2:45 am... and that was with my weekly Dungeons and Dragons meetup from about 7:00 to 12:30, so really? this only took me about four hours and fifteen minutes. Man, I was BOOKING it.
And on top of the speedy make time, this is probably the pony image in my gallery that I am the most proud of and turned out the absolute best. Perhaps the only one that's turned out better was Pie Hard: [link]
, but that's likely only because it's based off a movie poster, and a very simplistic one at that. Furthermore, I captured a background for that one, but here it's all my work. So yeah, even if that one turned out better overall, I'm more proud of this one. Especially given all the work that went into it.
I'm proud of it, though it's not perfect of course. I worry I might have overdone the lens flares a bit (though according to my friend you can never have too many lens flares), and I can tell right off the bat that the rainbow music-meter things are really off kilter, and the drawn in music notes are a bit shaky. Other than that, though, yeah, I'm REALLY proud of what I've done here.
This image is basically everything I wanted 'Applebloom the Rainbow Rider:' [link]
to be, but ultimately failed at. In ABtRR I didn't end up with anywhere near the dynamic pose I wanted, the layout was pretty boring, and I didn't put near as much effort into it as I wish I had, and a lot of it ended up suffering for it. It basically just ended up really flat and boring looking, especially because of the internet-grabbed background I used.
But when I made that image, I didn't have access to a tablet to help work out the finer details. I guess consider that image a learning experience to make this one all the better
And now, I must beddy bye. Goodnight, Awesome Derpy!
